Am I Part of the 47%?

Having learned the shocking truth from Willard M. Romney earlier this year that I’m not even part of the middle class because, in his view, it only starts at $200,00 per year, I am left to wonder where I, and so many of us, fit in his view of American citizenry. Now, I was feeling pretty good about myself because I earn a nice sum of money every year running my own business, and my husband is a Federal commissioner at the top of the Federal pay scale. We don’t qualify for the middle class, though, according to Mr. Romney. We must be the working poor, right?

Now I’m wondering, since we’re voting for Obama, if we’re the entitled slackers to which he was referring when he addressed a group of his own backers and thought no one was listening. I’m a woman, so I’m wondering if women might be the 47% he believes is coasting on the backs of good people, you know, rich white men. Somehow, I don’t think that’s what he means completely either. My elderly mother does collect social security and uses Medicare to cut her medical expenses, so maybe he means people in their 80’s and 90’s. Yeah, maybe all those old folks who worked all of their lives and paid into Social Security with their payroll taxes should be viewed as slackers now that they’re too old and frail to cut timber or mine coal. They should be living on their family trusts. Any millionaire knows that.

And what about those lazy, entitled people of color? They’re all wefare queens, right, just like Condoleeza Rice and Oprah and Gayle King and Eugene Robinson. Oh, and all those Latino folks who keep our nation in groceries, tend our gardens, and take care of our children when they’re not busy becoming mayors of LA or San Antonio or governors of New Mexico. Lazy bastards.

My questing is this? Where does Willard see you and me in his grand scheme? How about our kids? He wants to cut education because he doesn’t think that everyone is entitled to education. He wants to cut the EPA because he doesn’t seem to think that everyone is entitled to clean air and water and safe food. I feel as if I was just demoted from citizen to serf. How about you?

  1. Willard is sinking fast. But both scum bags have their fair share of lies and deception. Youtube is filled with Obama statements from 2008 that directly contradict his executive privilege policies. To me it’s mind boggling that american believe in a two party system and voting third party is a waste.

  2. I have yet to see anything which would reduce our president to a scum bag. I think it’s fair to say that when one becomes president and gets all the briefings, finds out top secret information, and learns certain things which are privileged and revealed by our intelligence to only a few that the executive privilege issue might undergo a change of heart. That isn’t exactly scum bag material. On the other hand, we now have a health care plan in place, the auto industry is doing well, little by little jobs are returning, we’re out of Iraq, there are 23 dead dictators and heads of Al Qaeda, and there’s no more "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" in the military. Obama has done more to support Israel’s security than any other president in our nation’s history. The huge national debt is primarily a result of the Bush policies which were put in place, such as the first stimulus, before Bush left office. I see a president who has been up against a Republican-led congress who have said, according to Mitch McConnell, that their "number one priority is to see that Obama doesn’t get a second term." This even at the risk of destroying the country. Isn’t that treason?

  3. You just don’t understand Mitt. The 47 percent he cites is simply those who won’t vote for him.
